Edna A. Lauterbach Nursing Scholarship

The Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship Fund for New York State nurses is now accepting applications for 2008. The scholarship is designed to assist registered nurses and licensed practical nurses with training or education that will enhance the nurse's skills in either the clinical or business area.

The scholarship fund was established in memory of Edna Lauterbach, who passed away in 1998, by the Health Care Providers Self-Insurance Trust, a workers' compensation self-insurance group that is an affiliate of HCP.

The scholarship fund is open to any nurse who lives or works in New York State, and it is administered by the Community Foundation for the Capital Region. Scholarship applications are due by August 1 and the award will be announced publicly at the HCP Annual Home Care Management Conference & Exposition in the fall.

Ms. Lauterbach, who spent her career in home care and was President of two home care agencies in Newburgh, believed nurses and nursing skills were critical to home care. She encouraged young people to pursue a career in home care through the nursing profession. As an entrepreneur, she felt her limited formal education in business put her at a disadvantage as her career developed.
