Home care is a solution . . .
Continued from Previous
The New York State Association of Health Care Providers, Inc. (HCP):
- HCP is a statewide trade association representing the full spectrum of home care and hospice agencies in New York.
- HCP believes patient access to cost-effective, quality home and community-based services should be a cornerstone of New York State health policy.
- HCP has on staff some of the leading experts on home care in New York State. They are available to the media as are HCP members (local home care providers from all areas of New York State).
Home Care and the Continuum of Care:
- Home care is an integral part of the current health care system and will be even more important in the future.
- Home and community-based care is preferred to institutional settings by most elderly and disabled patients and is generally more cost effective than care in an institution.
- The State and nation are looking to home and community-based care providers to meet the long-term, chronic care, and even acute care needs of our citizens.
- Over the past two years the State has launched several initiatives that, taken together, demonstrate the importance of home and community-based care as a very significant part of a solution to the State's need to control Medicaid costs.
- Numerous State agencies and workgroups have been looking into how to modify the current health care system and how to make it more efficient, less costly and more accessible for New Yorkers in need of care. These groups are looking to home care to take a greater role in the health care continuum.
MORE INFORMATION ON ALL OF THESE TOPICS IS AVAILABLE:
The key role of home care in New York's health care system has never been fully supported or appreciated but home care is the future (and a significant part of the solution to controlling New York's Medicaid costs).
