Selecting A Home Care Provider
Home care is an increasingly popular and cost-effective alternative to other
types of health care such as extended hospital stays and nursing home
residence. Home care enables patients to stay at home, in familiar
surroundings, while individual care needs are met. Home care can be extremely
effective for patients recuperating from a hospital stay, needing treatment for
acute or chronic illnesses, undergoing rehabilitative therapy, or needing
assistance with the basic activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing,
and eating.
A variety of sources pay for home care services including Medicare, Medicaid,
specific New York State programs administered through the Office of Mental
Health, Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and
Department of Aging, third-party insurance, and private pay. Since home care
benefits and eligibility requirements vary greatly, it is important to consult
with home care providers to determine specific coverages. All home care
services must be authorized by a patient's physician.
All home care organizations in New York State meet rigorous standards set by
the New York State Department of Health. This search engine
will help you find an HCP member home care provider in your area. (Shaded listings
are sponsored by that member.) Please tell your provider you found them through
the HCP website.
