HCP News Alert 9.18.2026

October 1 Deadline: Are Your Home Care Registry IDs Ready?

Beginning with dates of service October 1, 2026, New York State Medicaid will require individual Direct Care Worker identification on claims and encounters for Home Health Aides (HHA) and Personal Care Aides (PCA).

For HHA and PCA services, the worker will be identified using their NYS Home Care Registry (HCR) ID.

For LHCSAs, this means the HCR ID for the aide who actually provided the service must be available to the agency’s billing system and transmitted correctly with the claim or encounter.

There are some Associate Member resources available to help you navigate this change successfully, all at no cost:

  • HHAeXchange has published a Knowledge Base article outlining where to capture the Worker ID and how to set up contracts for billing purposes to help ensure claims are updated correctly.
  • HHAeXchange is also offering a free webinar October 1 at 11:00 AM covering what’s new in New York billing and how to manage these changes.
