Heat Emergency & Preparedness Webinar
As temperatures begin to rise across New York, preparation is key to protecting vulnerable individuals from heat-related illness. The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Center for Health Equity and Community Wellness is offering a free virtual webinar focused on heat safety, preparedness, and available cooling resources.
This educational session will cover:
- Who is most at risk during periods of extreme heat
- Common signs and symptoms of heat-related illness
- Practical steps individuals, caregivers, and families can take to stay safe
- Cooling assistance and resources available through city and state programs
- Strategies for creating a personal heat emergency plan
- Ways to support older adults, individuals with chronic conditions, and other vulnerable community members during heat events
For home care providers, heat emergencies can present significant risks to patients, particularly older adults, individuals with chronic health conditions, and those without access to air conditioning. Agencies are encouraged to review emergency preparedness plans, reinforce heat safety messaging with staff and patients, and take advantage of available educational opportunities.
