HCP Celebrates National Home Care Week

Albany, NY – Throughout the month of November, the New York State Association of Health Care Providers (HCP) joins organizations nationwide in recognizing National Care at Home Month and celebrating National Home Care Week. These observances shine a light on the home health aides, personal care aides, nurses, therapists, and schedulers who allow New Yorkers to receive high-quality care and support wherever they call home.

For more than half a century, home-based care, including home care, hospice, palliative care, and Medicaid home and community-based services, has made it possible for millions to recover from illness, manage chronic conditions, age in their communities, or spend their final months surrounded by their loved ones. As New York’s population continues to age, ensuring that this care remains strong, responsive, and accessible is more important than ever.

Caregivers Whose Work Changes Lives

Across the state, home care workers show extraordinary commitment and compassion. This week, HCP celebrates caregivers like:

  • Maranda Hall, Venture Forthe Inc.
During a routine visit, Maranda sensed that something was seriously wrong with her client’s spouse. She immediately called 911, stayed by his side, and ensured the family got help quickly. They later shared that her calm, decisive action likely saved his life.“Her vigilance reflects the real heart of home care — being present, attuned, and deeply connected to the families we serve,” said David Hogan, CEO of Venture Forthe Inc.
  • Samuel Gamson, OurCare Health
Samuel is known for his warm presence, steady kindness, and the way he brings a sense of reassurance to every home he enters. His clients and their families frequently call to praise his integrity and the joy he brings to their days.

“Home Care depends on the spirit of human connection,” said Domenic Colavito, Chief Operating Officer of OurCare In-Home Health Services. “The job of a caregiver is an incredibly difficult one, but also one that is wildly impactful with a ripple effect that moves through families and their homes.”

These stories represent thousands more happening quietly every day. They illustrate why home care is not just a service, but a lifeline built on trust, continuity, and human connection.

Why These Stories Matter for New York’s Future

The extraordinary work of caregivers depends on a strong, stable, and diverse network of home care providers. Each agency —large or small, urban or rural, community-based or specialized — plays a vital role in ensuring people can receive care at home.

The experiences shared during National Home Care Week underscore why thoughtful investments in home care, and policies that preserve a robust marketplace of providers, are essential to protecting access and choice for New Yorkers. Families rely on the relationships they build with caregivers, and those relationships rely on agencies that have the resources and stability to support a highly skilled workforce.

As the state considers its priorities for the year ahead, these stories remind us that a resilient home care system is not achieved by accident. It requires care, attention, and a commitment to ensuring providers have what they need to continue delivering safe, high-quality care across every community.

Standing Together in Celebration and Commitment

“Home-based care is a national treasure, preferred by patients and families across the country,” said Dr. Steve Landers, CEO of the National Alliance for Care at Home. “National Care at Home Month provides an opportunity for the care at home community to stand together with one voice and highlight the value of these essential types of care and help.”

HCP honors the thousands of home care workers and unpaid caregivers who bring comfort, dignity, and humanity into the lives of others every day, often without recognition, and often under intense personal strain. Their work is irreplaceable, and the strength of New York’s home care system must match the strength of those who sustain it.
