CDC Advisory: Cyclosporiasis

Today, the Department of Health (DOH / the Department) shared an Advisory from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding cases of domestically acquired cyclosporiasis in multiple US states. Since May 1, 2026, CDC has received reports of 1,645 confirmed domestic cases of cyclosporiasis and is aware of more than 5,100 cases that require further analysis to confirm the illness as domestically acquired cyclosporiasis. This is substantially higher than the 249 cases reported nationally by this same time last year.

Smoke from wildfires in Canada is expected to affect air quality across parts of New York beginning today. Air Quality Index (AQI) levels are forecast to reach Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (Orange) and could periodically increase to Unhealthy (Red). Air quality conditions may change throughout the day.

Flash Flooding Potential

The New York State Department of Health is urging home care providers to prepare for the potential impacts of heavy rainfall and flash flooding expected through July 7. Flood watches are in effect for Long Island, the Mid-Hudson Region, New York City, and the Southern Tier, with 2–4 inches of rain expected in many areas and localized totals of up to 5 inches. Power outages, road closures, and travel disruptions are possible.
