Heavy Rain, Flash Flooding, and Severe Storms Expected Across New York
The New York State Department of Health (DOH) is advising healthcare facilities, home care agencies, and hospice providers to prepare for a series of summer storms expected to bring heavy rainfall, flash flooding, severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and possible power outages beginning Tuesday, July 28 and continuing through Wednesday.

CDC Advisory: Cyclosporiasis
Today, the Department of Health (DOH / the Department) shared an Advisory from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding cases of domestically acquired cyclosporiasis in multiple US states. Since May 1, 2026, CDC has received reports of 1,645 confirmed domestic cases of cyclosporiasis and is aware of more than 5,100 cases that require further analysis to confirm the illness as domestically acquired cyclosporiasis. This is substantially higher than the 249 cases reported nationally by this same time last year.

DOH Immediately Discontinues Alternative Competency Demonstration for PCA Certification
The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has immediately discontinued the Alternative Competency Demonstration (ACD) as a pathway to Personal Care Aide (PCA) certification. The change was effective yesterday, July 16, 2026.
